About the event
Living in a globalized society, as individuals, we must learn to embrace differences and find common ground for harmony. There are more than 6,000 spoken languages in the world, few and even more dead languages. Among those spoken languages, some languages have very little people of first language. Language is also culture, and it needs to be preserved as well as respected.
English has been the superior language and has been made mandatory for many non-native speakers. Does this mean we only need English? We believe not. One does not need to learn all languages in the world, but one needs to be aware of the existence of these different languages.
This exhibition is created for the appreciation and celebration of language. It will look close up on how communication happens across-culture, and it will also implement inter- disciplinary methods to challenge social norms. The exhibition focuses on human interaction and the functionality of society in Modern Age, considering language as an identity.
I hope to highlight how diverse and marvelous language is in some cultures. With the participation of the attendees, we will spread the “power of language” across the Augsburg University campus.
